Curtis Walker (born 9 August 1959), is better known by his stage name Kurtis Blow, is one of the first commercially successful rappers and the first to sign with a major label. "The Breaks", a single from his 1980 debut album, is an early hip hop classic.


Rock Steady Crew is a breakdancing crew and hip hop group that was established in the Bronx, New York City in 1977. The group was initially formed by b-boys named Jimmy D and Jojo. In subsequent years, Rock Steady Crew became a franchise name for groups in other locations. The Manhattan branch was created by Crazy Legs (dancer) and Lenny Len. The New York Times called the Rock Steady Crew "the foremost breakdancing group in the world today."


The World's Famous Supreme Team was an American hip hop group founded in the 1980s. Members included Larry Price and Ronald Larkins Jr, among others. The group joined forces with Malcolm McLaren on a number of early hip hop hit records. [1] Among the most well known works were the singles "Buffalo Gals" (Charisma Records (UK) Island Records (US)) and "Hey DJ" (Island Records). The crew also had a radio show starting in 1979 on WHBI-FM 105.9 out of Newark, NJ. "Hey DJ" was sampled on Butterfly (Mariah Carey song)
